STEEL & GRIT: PITTSBURGH DOESN’T DO EASY.
A collaboration by LSF YOGI & The Honey Lounge × DEAD AIR 412
are football matches.
And then there are matches that feel like they belong to the city they’re being played in.
On September 6th, Pittsburgh gets exactly that.
The STEEL & GRIT DERBY brings IRON CITY FC and DAVID GOGGINS FC to SCHENLEY SPORTS OVAL for a matchup built around competition, endurance, discipline and the mentality this city has carried for generations.
This isn’t just another fixture.
This is Pittsburgh football through a Pittsburgh lens.
Steel. Smoke. Bridges. Concrete. Floodlights. Supporters. Football.
Pittsburgh was never built by taking the easy route.
The steel mills weren’t.
The bridges weren’t.
The neighborhoods weren’t.
And the football culture growing throughout this city shouldn’t be either.
That is what makes the Steel & Grit Derby different
IRON CITY. DAVID GOGGINS FC. ONE PITCH.
Iron City FC continues building an identity connected directly to the city it represents.
A club surrounded by Pittsburgh’s industrial history while working toward something new for the future of football in the city.
Across the pitch stands David Goggins FC.
A different identity.
A different journey.
But a mentality built around competing.
And on September 6th, those two worlds collide.
Once the players walk onto the field, the buildup disappears.
The graphics disappear.
The conversations disappear.
The predictions disappear.
There is only the match.
For ninety minutes, there is nowhere to hide.
THIS IS THE STEEL & GRIT DERBY
This isn’t about creating something polished and pretending Pittsburgh is somewhere else.
It’s about embracing exactly what this city is.
Raw.
Industrial.
Competitive.
Unforgiving.
The Steel & Grit Derby represents the energy surrounding independent football in Pittsburgh—clubs, players, supporters and creatives working to build something with its own identity.
No shortcuts.
No borrowed culture.
No pretending.
Just football.
The kind that happens when people care enough to build something from the ground up.
THE DAY STARTS BEFORE KICKOFF
The gates and atmosphere begin building at 12:30 PM with pre-match festivities.
Supporters will gather.
The conversations will start.
The energy will rise.
Then at 1:00 PM, everything changes.
The whistle blows.
And Schenley Sports Oval becomes the stage.
Iron City FC.
David Goggins FC.
Two teams.
One city.
Two sides of the pitch.
PITTSBURGH FOOTBALL IS FINDING ITS VOICE
For Dead Air and LSF Yogi, this is bigger than simply documenting another game.
It’s about documenting what is happening around the game.
The people.
The clubs.
The supporters.
The stories.
The moments before kickoff and the moments after the final whistle.
Pittsburgh has always had its own way of doing things.
Football here should be no different.
The Steel & Grit Derby isn’t trying to be the biggest match in another city.
It’s becoming something that belongs here.
Something that looks like Pittsburgh.
Sounds like Pittsburgh.
And carries Pittsburgh’s mentality.
Because easy was never part of the blueprint.
